Working in the Heat Wave

Working in the Heat Wave

Today I have spent lots of time fixing my website after I destroyed my New Releases page trying to add a code. Anyway I've fixed it now, but I feel exhausted. It is so hot! I'm afraid I don't cope very well in this oppressive heat. I envy the Northern Hemisphere their winter. How I long for some snow, or rain or anything to cool this climate down.

It's my night off from my full-time job and I have a lot to catch up on. Daniel returns to school on Thursday after almost 2 months off. He's not looking forward to it. He likes to be home, and I like having him home.
Daniel is going into Year 11 at school, his second last year. Then he wants to have a gap year  before going to college.

So tonight in all this heat, I'll be getting school clothes ready and covering books. I just feel like sleeping all the time as the heat drains me of energy.
The nights are also very hot and hardly cool down at all. I must invest in some air conditioning in the near future as it's impossible to sleep in this sweltering weather.
When I become successful, I would love to have a swimming pool, it's something that I've always wanted.

The weather forcast for the coming days is hot, hot, hot and no rain (as usual).
So all you northern  hemisphere dwellers enjoy the cool weather and think of us Aussies battling the heatwave and the bushfires!

My new health and fitness regime!

My New Heath and Fitness Regime!

Last night  for the first time in 6 months, I stepped onto the dreaded scales. I'm been avoiding the scales for the past six months, since I quit going to the gym. I gave up going to the gym because I wasn't losing any weight. I now realise that going to the gym was stopping me from putting on weight.

Anyway, I noticed that my work uniforms were getting too tight so I bit the bullet and weighed myself. Much to my dismay, I have put on 4 kilos over the last six months. So today I started dieting and exercising.
I had a cafe latte protein shake for breakfast.

We decided to drive to Bathurst today so that my learner driver son could get some practise driving on the highway and add to his hours in his log book. He has clocked up 10 hours of lessons now, but still has 110 hours to go! Learner driver training is very strict in New South Wales and it takes 4 years to become a fully licensed driver. Anyway, as we were in Bathurst we had lunch out and I had a turkey, salad and cranberry wrap with a diet Coke. Tonight we're having stir fry chicken with rice. Then I'm off to do my long night shift at the hospital.

For exercise I'm doing 30 minutes cardio per day plus weights every second day. I have exercise equipment at home which I've dusted off and intend to use daily! Today I did 10 minutes on the exercise bike which nearly killed me. It's amazing how quickly one can lose fitness. I used to be able to stay on the bike for 60 minutes not so long ago. This is what happens when you stop exercising. After the bike I did 10 minutes on the cross trainer, 5 minutes on the rower and 5 minutes of ab exercises. I felt exhausted after all that.

The hardest part for me is drinking enough water. I've never been a water drinker and I have to force myself to drink enough of it. I've had 4 glasses so far, and 4 more to go today. I'm determined to do this, I turned 54 in December and I don't want to be fat and 55 next December. I have been spending all my spare time on the computer instead of exercising, so I'm going to do my exercises everyday before I check my emails or do anything else on the computer.

Anyway I survived my first day, many more to go!

My New Video for My Stuffed Teddy

My Stuffed Teddy - New Video

My youngest son, Daniel has worked very hard making me a video for my website. I'm very happy with the end result and so proud of him. Children are so clever at technical things. I don't know what I'll do when he leaves home to go to college. He's the only one who can fix the television when I press the wrong button and get a totally blue screen. He has told me how to fix it many times but it just doesn't click! The problem is all the gadgets attached to the television, there's the pay TV box, the video player, the playstation and so on, it's all very confusing! Anyway, back to the new video, Daniel has put some of the images from my website, labelled them and added music and it's very effective. Here is the video :

Teddy Bear Eyes

Teddy Bear Eyes

Teddy bear eyes are the most expressive part of a teddy bears face, so you will need to decide what sort of eyes to use, what size and colour and where to position them. If the teddy bear is for an adult or a collector, glass eyes should be used.

Glass Teddy Bear Eyes

Glass eyes come in a huge range of colours and sizes and most of them are hand made, it's very hard to choose which colour although black is the most popular.
I love to use one of the many choices of blue eyes for bears that are white or light coloured. I like to also trim the fur around the eyes so that the eyes are more visible. I use coloured head straight pins to decide where to place the eyes. I prefer the eyes to be set fairly close together, but they can be wide apart if that's the right look for the bear. Move the pins around until you're happy with the position. I use dental floss to sew in the eyes as it's very strong and almost impossible to break. Pull the eyes in tight so that they make an indent in the teddy bears head. This makes the eyes look like they are in an eye socket.

Safety Teddy Bear Eyes

Safety eyes should always be used is the teddy bear is for a baby or a child. These also come in brown, black and many other colours.
Eye sizes range from 1mm for small bears to 30mm for large bears. Safety eyes are placed in the head before stuffing the head. Glass eyes are sewn in after stuffing. I find that putting larger eyes on a teddy bear makes the teddy bear  look younger. Most bear makers tend to use black shiny eyes but I like to vary the eye colours and sizes that I use.

Where to buy Teddy Bear Eyes

Glass eyes can be bought from craft shops that sell teddy bear supplies or they can be bought easily on-line.
Happy Bear-Making!
