Last night for the first time in 6 months, I stepped onto the dreaded scales. I'm been avoiding the scales for the past six months, since I quit going to the gym. I gave up going to the gym because I wasn't losing any weight. I now realise that going to the gym was stopping me from putting on weight.
Anyway, I noticed that my work uniforms were getting too tight so I bit the bullet and weighed myself. Much to my dismay, I have put on 4 kilos over the last six months. So today I started dieting and exercising.
I had a cafe latte protein shake for breakfast.
We decided to drive to Bathurst today so that my learner driver son could get some practise driving on the highway and add to his hours in his log book. He has clocked up 10 hours of lessons now, but still has 110 hours to go! Learner driver training is very strict in New South Wales and it takes 4 years to become a fully licensed driver. Anyway, as we were in Bathurst we had lunch out and I had a turkey, salad and cranberry wrap with a diet Coke. Tonight we're having stir fry chicken with rice. Then I'm off to do my long night shift at the hospital.
For exercise I'm doing 30 minutes cardio per day plus weights every second day. I have exercise equipment at home which I've dusted off and intend to use daily! Today I did 10 minutes on the exercise bike which nearly killed me. It's amazing how quickly one can lose fitness. I used to be able to stay on the bike for 60 minutes not so long ago. This is what happens when you stop exercising. After the bike I did 10 minutes on the cross trainer, 5 minutes on the rower and 5 minutes of ab exercises. I felt exhausted after all that.
The hardest part for me is drinking enough water. I've never been a water drinker and I have to force myself to drink enough of it. I've had 4 glasses so far, and 4 more to go today. I'm determined to do this, I turned 54 in December and I don't want to be fat and 55 next December. I have been spending all my spare time on the computer instead of exercising, so I'm going to do my exercises everyday before I check my emails or do anything else on the computer.
Anyway I survived my first day, many more to go!
